Duddingston aces shine in 1895 Cup
In an event held at Valescure Golf Club in the south of France, Jim Penman and Alex Wood both made the prize lists.
Penman, with 38 points, finished second in the battle for the main trophy, losing in a countback to the host club’s Jean-Pierre Lejeune.

Hide AdAs consolation, Penman picked up the 1895 Club visitor net prize and, joining forces with Wood, also claimed victory for Duddingston in the concurrent team event.
“I instigated the 1895 Club in March 1996 at Handsworth Golf Club in March 1986, when 17 clubs agreed to having reciprocal arrangements for their members to get free golf,” said former Duddingston captain Bill Flockhart. “There are now 42 clubs, mostly in the UK. There is potential to have over 100 clubs who were formed in 1895, but that will take time.”
Flockhart and Gerry Lane also played in this year’s event, with the 2013 version already planned for next September.
Meanwhile, yesterday’s Edinburgh & East of Scotland Alliance event at Duddingston had to be abandoned due to the weather. The event has been re-scheduled for March 13.
