A DRIVER and his passenger had a lucky escape yesterday morning after their car skidded on ice and ended up teetering over the edge of the Caledonian Canal in Inverness.

The unnamed couple were travelling in a Seat Ibiza when it lost its grip on ice in Muirtown, near the Highland capital, but were able to get out of the vehicle.

Scotland has been hit with a number of weather alerts in recent days, with the country braced for snow and ice.

A yellow ‘be aware’ warning was issued by the Met Office last week, until 6am on Boxing Day while parts of the country.
