Letter: ABE spells bigotry

SO, JOHN Taylor has finally found the argument he has been seeking to justify his anti-English racism (Letters, 13 June). He decides that he wishes England ill and then waits years for what he considers an intellectual argument to support his view. This is known as prejudging the issue – prejudice.

Perhaps it has never occurred to him that there is a middle way between supporting England and the bigoted stance he takes. Why not regard England's fortunes in the same way as those of, say, Ireland or Norway – with a sports fan's good-natured interest, but little more? Perhaps this would not satisfy the need to have someone to hate, which seems to characterise the ABE brigade.
