Ebola treatment

Unfortunately, in his remarks about the Scottish nurse’s Ebola treatment, Alastair Paisley (Letters, 31 December) has allowed his anti-independence prejudices to influence his
opinion.

The problem is that science, including medical science, knows no national boundaries, even those between the nations of England and Scotland, whether independent or not. It is common knowledge that London became the centre of excellence for tropical diseases, given its commanding position in the Empire, now the Commonwealth.

Other countries also occupy similar pre-eminent positions on aspects of health expertise which they readily share as and when required.

It would be unacceptable were the instinctive integrity of the medical profession to be over-ridden by any decisions by unionist politicians predicated upon spite on account of us being independent.
