Britons shot in 'honour killing'

Concern was raised yesterday for Britons involved in arranged marriages abroad after a couple were shot dead in an apparent "honour killing".

Taxi driver Gul Wazir and his wife Begum, from Birmingham, were killed in Pakistan after they tried to back out of their daughter's arranged marriage.

Their son was also shot during the attack in Nowshera province. He is recovering in hospital.

According to reports, the the Wazirs had agreed to pay the equivalent of 18,800 to the bridegroom, who is also their nephew, in compensation.

The killings come months after a Lancashire couple were gunned down in Pakistan.
