YOU know it's Edinburgh Fringe time when you bump into a man dressed as a gherkin, or cadge a light for a ciggie from Elizabeth I in a giant silver frock, while 20 young drama students have a big argument in posh tones about "who moved the chair from the stage". I love the drama of it all.
But I feel desperately sorry for the skinny young "Sophies" who are working as PRs at this year's festival. They are dealing with the permanently frayed tempers of angry performers who demand press attention for their innovative show.
