TREATMENT and early diagnosis of dementia could be improved through a £1 million investment to be announced today by the Scottish Government.

Here's hoping this funding is well used, the first or more to come and leads to an effective treatment - or even better - an eventual preventative measure or cure.

Dementia is terrifying on a personal level, for those suffering and those who love the sufferer. On a national level it's a huge problem, with an aging population presenting a massive funding issue to come.

There are many problems with the current homes - how much worse will that be when homes become even more overstretched?

£ 1 million split between four centres is not much - £1/4million is required to fund a small but decent sized research project - so don't get your hopes up too high!

It says four research "hubs". I didn't think network servers were so expensive. These people will be working elsewhere from the sounds of it, so surely the admin to create the necessary common forums won't bring the total cost within a quarter of the sum proposed. What's it going to be spent on.

Any investment in research is great as more and more of our elderly population are being hit by this debilitating disease. Once people have been diagnosed the cost to ther individual, society, family and friends are painful and alarming..prevention prevention prevention!!!!
